About Angels
After doing the series of images for the action titled Poner en Luz (To Shed Light, 2005/06), I started to develop a series of works that I group under the title Ángeles (Angels), with the subseries: Ángeles de Oficio (Assigned Angels) and Ángeles en Tierra (Angels on Earth).
In those series, I work with the idea of the human being as a luminous being that emits his own light. The light as a constitutive, intangible and immanent nature, as a subtle matter that conforms its existence in the world. Physical presence and light presence. Also a way to illuminate, giving light to the vital path that we project physically.
In this work I look for the particular light that is unique to every human being. A way of seeing that seeks the light as a metaphor for the divine condition that edify us, transforming and making us creators or co-creators of the reality where we reveal our life experience.
I attempt to represent each individual´s own innate divinity, assuming this exists for everyone, regardless of their gender, race or any other human condition. I look for the divinity which is shown or made evident through the light that emanates from the body, as if it was a physical extension that makes itself visible, revealing and unveiling itself. A light appearance that completes us, offering new information about our behaviour, our relationships, our vision, our desires or the way we participate in the world and express ourselves. In these images, the ethereal part (heaven) is connected with the physical and corporeal presence (the earth), representing and embracing an inclusive uniqueness, symbolically representing heaven on earth.
On Ángeles de Oficio, I work with chosen models: real people that exist and represent different paths and life styles. For each of them, I search for their own inner light, their personal unique characteristics, their “angelic” likeliness or the particular way they conduct and let themselves be. In order to do so, I take as a reference a context where each individual finds its place around their own work or profession. In that environment, I take photos which later on will be downloaded and edit on my computer to be finally printed on canvas.
